Top Trumps USA announced the release of Monopoly: Austin Edition on Friday, October 23. The company revealed the new collector's board game in a press release. This specific version of the classic title includes local landmarks and businesses. The board layout mirrors the standard game structure. However, the properties have been replaced with specific Austin locations.

The game lists seventeen local businesses and landmarks as purchasable properties. These include Zilker Belts, Retro Boat Rentals ATX, and the Thinkery. Other listed establishments are the Comedy Mothership, Auntie's House, and Busty's Bar & Jukebox. The list also contains Bird's Barbershop, Austin Pickle Ranch, and Tecovas. Torchys Tacos, Schlotzsky's Deli, and Terry Black's BBQ are also represented. Wanderlust Wine Co., El Arroyo, and Kerbey Lane All Day Cafe complete the business roster. The board features neighborhoods and sites such as downtown Austin, South Congress, Barton Springs, and the Capitol.

Several game mechanics have been updated to reflect local culture. Chance cards may direct players to take a recommendation from Austin Food Adventures. Community Chest cards can book players on Austin City Limits. The standard luxury tax has been renamed the tailgate tax. Players can own a food truck deed. The traditional railroad crossings have been replaced by locations for paddleboarding, kayaking, or scootering.

Top Trumps began engaging the Austin community in July 2025. The company gathered feedback for one year. They collected input via emails, Instagram direct messages, and posts tagged #MonopolyAustin. Josie Cole, a Top Trumps spokesperson, stated in the press release that the goal was to create an authentic game. She noted that the community provided input on places that make the city special. Donna Varner, president of Schlotzsky's, commented on the brand's inclusion. She said the company is honored to be recognized among local icons. Varner added that the company is excited to celebrate the spirit of connection and family.

The final board omits several categories of local sites. No specific music venues appear as properties, despite the city's known live music scene. Austin City Limits appears only as a Community Chest card element. The board does not include properties named for highways, bridges, or hotels. The game is licensed to Top Trumps under Hasbro. It is available for purchase online for $39.99. The company stated it is planning to work with local gift shops on distribution.

The original Monopoly game was designed to critique property ownership. Elizabeth Magie, the inventor, created it to highlight systems of privatization. The new Austin Edition allows players to buy up deeds to places like Barton Springs. The Top Trumps online store describes the game as a way to experience Austin one deal at a time. It encourages players to gather with others and choose a strategy. The company describes the game as having plenty of Texas personality. The board is more colorful than the original design. Photographs are included to add visual detail to the properties.

The release marks the end of a yearlong survey process. The company selected the final list of properties based on community responses. The game retains the core objective of the original. Players buy property, extract rent, and aim to bankrupt opponents. The Austin Edition includes specific local references in its text and imagery. The pricing and distribution details were announced alongside the reveal. Local retailers will carry the physical copies. The online store page emphasizes the novelty aspect of the purchase. The game is now available to consumers in Travis County.
