Israeli police determined on Monday that the death of a man in his 40s was the result of a criminal act rather than a terror attack. The body of the east Jerusalem resident was discovered in the Wadi Rahal area near Bethlehem. Officers, forensic specialists, and IDF soldiers secured the scene to collect physical evidence. The deceased is scheduled for transfer to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute to establish the precise cause of death.
This determination clarifies the nature of the incident for residents and officials monitoring security in the region. The police statement explicitly categorized the event as criminal in origin. This classification separates the case from other recent events in the West Bank that involved suspected security operatives.
Separate security actions unfolded in Bethlehem during Sunday night raids. Israeli forces detained a Palestinian man allegedly affiliated with Hamas. During the operation, officers seized a loaded hunting rifle, IDF uniforms, and various technological items. The suspect and one other resident, accused of possessing weapons, were taken to the Ma'ale Adumim police station for investigation.
In Hebron, authorities arrested a man in his 30s who held a hunting rifle and a large quantity of ammunition. Meanwhile, police in Kalansuwa, a majority-Arab city in central Israel, uncovered a cache of stolen IDF weapons. The seizure included one Kalashnikov rifle, three M-16 assault rifles, eight handguns, six fragmentation grenades, two stun grenades, and three tactical vests. Thousands of rounds of ammunition were also recovered. Two family members present at the site were detained for questioning.
A distinct incident occurred in the city of Rahat during a weekend operation targeting illegal firearms. Rescue teams found a man chained to the floor of a home with his leg shackled. Preliminary findings indicate his family members restrained him due to his drug use. The man's brother was arrested and brought to the Rahat police station to explain the circumstances of the confinement.
These events highlight a coordinated push by Israeli security forces to address both criminal violence and security threats across the West Bank and central Israel. The investigations in Bethlehem, Hebron, Kalansuwa, and Rahat remain active as authorities process the seized evidence.
